In the absence of infrastructure at the Citadel, we rent the Lakenhalle from the city of Diest in the first quarter of the year and preferably in the first half of March. Because the hall is often used by associations, we had already reserved the room in February 2020. This also allowed us to announce the date of the Annual Meeting of 7 March 2020. In March 2020 the Coronavirus broke out and there was nothing to expect that the measures taken would still be in effect a year later. The city of Diest has just decided to keep it in effect until March 1, 2021.

During a contact with our liaison  person from the city, we came to the conclusion that if the measure with only one hug contact per family was relaxed, there would be no question of organizing a meeting with 150 to 200 persons in the Lakenhalle six days later.

OUR ANNUAL MEETING OF MARCH 6, 2021 IS CANCELED.

The vaccinations of the plus 65 will start in March and will be followed by the rest, an operation lasting months. It is therefore impossible to look into the future, all the more that the Corona situation is still very unstable.
Paratroopers are also unable to escape the virus and the report of deceased members continues to rise. Take all the precautions you consider necessary and, please do not challenge the virus.

You also can help to preserve the history of the Belgian paratroopers in general, and  of the 1st Para Battalion in particular, by joining the Pegasus Museum at the Citadel of Diest.

Becoming a member does not entail any obligations, but by joining, you keep the spirit of the para-commandos and the memories of all veterans alive in the museum.
The museum is also a learning school about para's for all interested who come to visit it.
WHO DARES WINS !

Citadel of Diest and the Pegasus Museum
The 1st Belgian Parachute Unit was founded in England on 8 May 1942. In February 1944 she transformed to become the Belgian Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment. From June 1944 the regiment carried out operations in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
After the war the regiment transformed again to become a parachute infantry unit. On April 1st 1951 the name changed and the 1ste Battaljon Parachutist was born.
In Belgium it was based succesfully in Tervuren, Leopoldsburg and Diest. During 57 years - from August 1953 until the dissolution in August 2010 - the Citadel of Diest was its home location.
In 1976, the battalion opened its Pegasus museum, which had two additions and gives an overview of the unit history.

On July 1, 2011, the last soldiers left the Citadel and on February 23th, 2013, the Ministry of Defense sold  it to the city of Diest. Only the museum was kept as a testimony and can be visited by appointment for groups of 15 or more.
